The iPhone Speed Radar is an easy-to-use app that allows you to measure speed conveniently and accurately. This advanced tool is designed to measure the speed of various objects such as cars, boats, skaters, skiers, cyclists, animals, models, footballs, tennis serves, and more. By utilizing motion detection technology, you can track the movement of an object using just your handheld device. The Speed Radar feature includes three different speed measurement tools and two distance estimation tools.
The SpeedClock app utilizes your iPhone's camera to detect and analyze motion, along with a reference distance, in order to calculate the speed of an object. Simply define the distance to the object you want to measure, hold your iPhone still, and let the object pass across the screen. The speed is then displayed automatically. In addition, SpeedClock allows you to automatically measure and save the speed of passing objects by capturing images. You can even initiate measurements from your Apple Watch and view the speed directly on the watch face.
For tracking small and fast objects such as flying balls, the High Speed Video Recording tool is a valuable addition. By recording and processing a video, SpeedClock is able to accurately track these objects which can be difficult to capture with regular motion detection. This feature also calculates additional parameters like acceleration.
The Synchronized Timing Gates feature utilizes two iPhone or iPad devices equipped with motion detection to start and stop the timer and measure speed. By determining the distance between the devices as a reference, the speed is calculated based on the time taken by the object to travel between the 'Start' and 'Stop' points. The time data is transmitted wirelessly over WiFi or Bluetooth.
In addition to speed measurement tools, SpeedClock also provides distance measurement capabilities. The stadimeter uses the size of a known object (such as a car) to calculate the distance, while the clinometer estimates the distance to a point on the ground based on your own height and the angle of your iPhone. The distances obtained from either tool can then be used to calculate speed.
